I was approached by Cutagen last week and they sent me some samples to review for you . To be honest , samples are sometimes not so bad as you sometimes get a few uses from them but when they are quite small I do not get the true feel of the product in just one use , so this is something I do not like doing usually as samples for some reason take me three times longer to review than any other item, maybe it is because they come in bundles like this review has. So I apologise for being late with this review today. Being that Cutagen looks pretty new on the scene though , I really wanted to give them ago as I am going through a lot of skincare changes at the moment and looking at many brands on the market. For me, skincare needs to be effortless and effective and most of all affordable as it is something I use on a regular basis and buy most of in my beauty product range. Lately I have started to really enjoy my new skincare routine and never get tired of it . The one thing I always look forward to is the smell, the scent of a product means everything to me and if its got a terrible scent , I will not apply it again , it really puts me off. So what do I know about Cutagen? First of all , this brand is British founded and everything is inspired, tested , designed, made, re-tested, packaged and sent to the rest of the world from the UK. Cutagen list all of their ingredients on their products so that you are happy in knowing exactly what is been put on your skin. The concept for Cutagen was established in November 2011. Time was spent on getting the concept to a feasible business plan and to register the company in Oct 2012. Then the company spent the next year finalising formulations and completing all the regulatory testing of the product range as well as establishing the website and branding. Product manufacture commenced at the end of 2013 however due to a manufacturing glitch there was a delay and an initial idea of a Christmas launch was abandoned. The products were launched at the end of February this year . Products have been available since this date. Cutagen Skincare was inspired by a senior medical doctor who deals with dermatological conditions on a daily basis. He has seen the physical and psychological effects that poorly managed skin complaints can have on patients, their parents and loved ones. Every ingredient has been reviewed by Cutagen's PhD scientist who has a distinguished career in the pharmaceutical industry and a background in molecular biology (how chemicals interact with living things) and microbiology (how viruses, bacteria and fungi work) and has extensive experience in the control of harmful bacteria on the skin. Their formulation consultant with over 20-years experience in the cosmetics industry has designed Cutagen products to feel, look and smell great. This synergy creates the environment to develop products that are founded on experienced scienctific principles and cosmetic integrity. Cutagen work with supplying products that help this problem skin. They ensure that they are mild and gentle so even those who have sensitive skin can enjoy a little luxury of skin care regime in their life. I do not have problem skin just a little dryness with a small sensitivity around the top of the cheeks and under the nose area now and again so this review is merely on the experience I had with them . So lets see what we have here-

My conclusion of the products- Ok so as usual , I am not going to lie , nor am I going to pretend that everything was great about this product. Scent - I have been sleeping on this all night wondering how to politely put the brint of the fact that these products smell absolutely terrible. Every single item smells exactly the same and to me and its not a scent I would enjoy applying to my skin daily. I was expecting a fresh citrus smell with their being orange in the products but it is not coming through , Instead all I can smell is a sort of foisty flat coke smell. It is strange , I can't really describe it but I honestly do not like it at all. In fact the whole set I was sent were all the same except for the only one which was not a cream , The Refreshing wash gel. The refreshing wash gel is actually what I was expecting from the others . It is refreshing and the scent smells like a minty citrus which I actually like. I think they have a problem are with the creams because if the products were like the Gel wash then it would be ok, it really has put me off. Price - For me ,scent is everything and if that is not nice then the product won't even make it into my basket. Ranging from £5.99 to £9.99 , I would not pay for this product due to the scent. I actually think I could pick up some lovely moisturisers and bath products for less from some great brands which have a preferred aroma. Packaging- Now I know I only received samples but I have looked at the packaging. I love the colours and the style and they are quite eye catching . This seems so sad to have had to do this review, I actually dreaded having to write this up but I have to be honest to you all and would hate for you to go out and buy these thinking they were something they are not.
I actually spoke to another lady who is currently reviewing these products and her view is the same as mine. It is hard for new brands to be seen on the market these days when they are up against so many others that get it right at the start . Hopefully Cutagen can figure something out because I would be happy to try again if the scent of the product was more like the gel. Sorry Cutagen, it is a no from me .

I responded to their request for UK Bloggers to sample their range on Twitter but they never responded to me. Doesn't look like I'm missing much though!

LOVE your honest review, thank you. I agree the packaging looks lovely - such a shame about the smell although hopefully something they can easily fix if they listen to the feedback.

I wonder if you got out of date samples or a bad batch? They actually sound like 'off food'

What a shame about the scent, but I think people who have problem skin may want to try these products anyway. I have very dry patches on my face and I'm always trying different things. Well done for writing such an honest review.

I think Bloggers who write honest reviews, which are not always gushing about products are far more believable and likely to attract more views. Good on you for a great, in depth review and constructive advice for Cutagen.

I totally agree scent is an important factor and I'm sorry these didn't give that. The price is ok but as you said I wouldn't pay if they don't smell nice x

The packaging is really lovely but the price would put me off because I don't spend much on creams!

I am with you regarding the scent but I also understand why this is happening... just as per Cutagen team reply... when it comes to sensitive skin you can't have it all.

Oh god I had these too and was absolutely disappointed. The packaging looks poor and I wouldn't pick them up in store tbh. I also received sachets which didn't leave a very good first impression. I feel there's not enough product in the sachets to make a full judgment/opinion of it as it only provides 1-2 applications max. The smell was disgusting of flat cola. I know they try to create skincare that's gentle and only uses natural products and you can't please everyone, but they definitely need to improve this. It's not nice having an odd breeze now and again sticking with your nose. Happy Friday xxx
