Who are Old Wives Tale? A lady named Lily contacted me offering me their SOS Organic Anti-Hair Loss Oil Treatment for review. Living and growing up in the beautiful hot countries such as South Africa and Portugal, the sun had taken its toll on the Lily's hair as a child and it was her Grandmother who loved cooking with oils in the kitchen that made up a mix of oils and told her to apply it to her hair and leave it over night , promising her that she would have amazingly smooth, soft and hair that was full of life again. Sure enough Lily was happy with the results and she was amazed at how gorgeous her hair felt and so she continued to use the formula up until she moved to England in her late teens where she used the commercial shampoos and conditioners . Each year she would visit her Grandmother and bring herself a batch back of the hair treatment to use but with University studies and work and in her late twenties, she then decided to give the organic hair care products business a go. I love the phrase she uses and how she describes the name choice of her brand which she now sells and distributes worldwide. She named her brand - Old Wives Tale. Old Wive being her Grandmother and Tale for her new long locks of hair . Now that her brand is made and sold, she prides herself in knowing that her small hair care company is organic with no additives or chemicals and their lifetime goal is to eradicate animal testing and cruelty in the beauty industry . The products are made in small batches to ensure freshness and lack of waste . They donate 10% of their profits to charities that save animals from being tested .
You can find out more about Old Wives Tale on the following networking sites- Old Wives Tale Website Google+ So lets take a look at the product- SOS Organic Anti- hair loss treatment - 100m Can be bought from - Old Wives Tale website Cost- £13.99 Ingredients- Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Prunus Dulcis (Almond) Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Oil. What Old Wives Tale say about their product- A healthy scalp is vital for healthy hair growth. If you suffer from a dry, itchy scalp just a few drops of SOS will soothe, moisturise and soften your scalp to prevent hair loss. This 100% organic oil contains natural anti-bacterial agents that soothe and heal scalp infections and remove dead skin cells. SOS has stimulating properties that increase circulation and encourage healthy hair growth. How to use - Old Wives Tale say to massage deeply into the scalp, in particular on the most dry areas. For em that is my ends of the hair, Smooth over the rest of your hair to strengthen each and every strand root to tip. Leave on for one hour or overnight then rinse with fresh water and shampoo. Repeat this process until your hair feels clean and product free. After shampooing you can use conditioner on the ends of your hair only. Rinse out thoroughly and style as normal. Using the treatment by leaving it on over night and wrapping your hair in a warm towel will give you the best results. Store in a cool dry place and do not apply to open wounds . My thoughts on the treatment- Price- Ok so some people may think that £13,99 is a little much for such a small product, but if you are anything like me, then you may have payed more for a treatment before and not had any results what so ever. For me it is all about paying for what you get and when you know the product is organic and natural and free from animal testing then the price seems to go out to the back of the mind. The product may only be small but you only need a very small amount to get a good coverage on your hair so will last you twice as long as the commercial hair care products . Packaging- The packaging is very simple . A clear rounded plastic tub with a black twist of lid. A small circular sticker with the ladies red head and the brand name which is placed central to the product . The only problem I have with it is that if this was to be put on the shelf or given to someone in a hamper or as a gift , then I would recommend placing a label on the back or bottom ,explaining the ingredients inside the product. Usually I would not use a product if it did not have a label of ingredients, luckily I have access to the internet to check but I am not sure that everyone does. Other than that its quite cute and discrete , easy for carrying on your hot summer trips away. Scent- Ok I am trying not to laugh as I remember applying this to my hair and my husband sticking his nose in the air and running around the house at me telling me he did not like it. He is right in saying it is very strong but I have to disagree with him that it was not nice, I actually love the scent of organic products, it assures me it is what it says especially when I only smell almond, lavender and peppermint and clove. I find it quite relaxing although my senses do not. I find the scent addictive and keep opening the bottle just to have a little whiff . I love the aroma from the treatment , smells lovely to me . Texture - There is not much to say about the texture , it is oil and all oil is greasy although in my opinion this is not as greasy as expected . My conclusion- About 6 years ago , I ruined my hair after colouring it over and over again . The constant nasty chemicals that attacked my hair literally killed my hair and left it feeling lifeless , dry and the hair dresser showed me that my hair was like elastic. He pulled a strand from my head , placed in front of my eyes and pulled each end to show how I had ruined my hair by stretching it. I felt terrible , I had no idea how much damage I had done to my what once was long beautiful hair and felt physically sick it would never be the same again. From that day I decided not to ever colour my hair again and cut my very long (down to my bum) hair to a very short shoulder length style. I vowed never to use chemical treatments or colourings ever again and since then have not and take care in using only products I feel safe for my hair. I still suffer with very dry, itchy scalp and it can be very annoying on a daily basis. Also , because my hair is so thick and long now after growing the old hair out and looking after it a lot more, I find whilst brushing my hair that I lose quite a lot of hair strands, In fact I would say every time I brush I lose about 50 -100 at least , its ridiculous , and that is without the daily fallouts that happen during the day to. The treatment oil contains anti-bacterial agents that heal scalp infections and remove dead skin cells, as well as having stimulating properties that increase circulation and encourage healthy hair growth. The hair loss is natural I know that , but the ease and rescue the product gave my dry , itchy scalp is what makes me love it. The best way to use this is by applying this onto your damp hair , making sure you apply to the ends of your hair and for me ,my scalp was in need of help to. Place a shower cap over the top ,(maybe a pillow protector to protect those sheets to) and leave it on for an hour or until you wake up the next morning. I immediately showered the next day , ensuring I had removed the oil treatment from my hair . I had to shampoo my hair only once to remove the oil from my hair and gave it a blow dry . I can not really comment on the hair growth but I can say that after the first use I noticed my hair was soft, shiny more manageable and I found whilst brushing my hair that less hair strands were found in my hair brush so it must have definitely strengthened my hair . I love the fact that when it has been washed out even with a shampoo that the aromatic and woody scent is still there but luckily for my husband not so pungent as it did from the bottle . My husband has the reclining hair style that he does says bothers him , unfortunately he disallowed me to try this on him to see if it would help regrowth due tot he smell , I am hoping I can catch him out one day though. The treatment most definitely healed and soothed my scalp, it feels so calm . If you love to use home made organic products from a brand that have morals and ethics to help and protect nature and animal rights, then I would totally recommend Old Wives Tale . I can definitely say from someone who knows about ruined hair, that this is somewhat of a wonderful product to have and Ii would totally recommend it to anyone who needs a natural treatment to replenish your hair.
