We all know how important taking pictures on our blogs can be and if the lighting is terrible it can all go wrong as I have come to learn.

My pictures recently have been a nightmare especially when it comes to photographing certain products like eyeshadows and lipsticks. I have found myself walking into the only room in the house that has even a slight bit of light which unfortunately is my childrens bedroom. I have then placed my product on their white dollhouse and had to put on flash to brighten it up, but it just makes the product look the wrong colour and does not show the true colour or detail and I have been none stop moaning about it.

Fortunately I have a fabulous husband who heard my cries of distress lol and he soon ordered me the pop up Portable Photo studio tent with tripod and lights to see if it would shut me up and help in some way.

Now these range from being really affordable to quite expensive but fortunately he found one on Ebay priced £76.00 reduced to only £30 or so (I do not know the exact price because it was a valentines gift so will not ask).

It looks a great idea and I have heard alot of people have made these themselves from cardboard and paper but by the time you buy the lights and fabric you may as well buy them in my eyes. It is nice to have the carry case and tripod and fabrics backdrops .

First of all you get inside

X2 50w lights with fold away stands . These plug into the mains which I am happy about as I was worried they would be battery operated and the cable is a good length meaning I can move them around the box to a possition I feel is working best for me.
Camera Tripod Stands . These stands are fully adjustable, high quality, aluminum and steel. Large legs with skid reduction pads keep stand firmly in place. The camera tripod's adjustable height ranges from approx. 25cm with extension up to 45cm. I was desperate for one of these so I am pleased it came with one.
X4 backdrop sheets . You get RED, BLACK, WHITE AND BLUE. These are very good quality fabrics with wipeable one side and velvet on the other .

The studio box is  50x50x50cm and folds into a carrying bag which stores your lights, backdrops and tripods.

So there you go that is what you get now lets see if this actually works.

White backdrop - actually shows product very well but the lights have let it down .

Again - the lights have let it down and does not give the effect it is meant to have .
First of all let me just warn you - DO NOT BUY THIS SET FORM EBAY AND IF YOU DO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE CE ( The CE marking is the manufacturer's declaration that the product meets the requirements of the appliance EC directives, The manufacturer of CE-marked goods has verified that the product complies with all applicable EC requirements, such as safety, health, and environmental protection, and, if stipulated in any directive, has had them examined by a notified conformity assessment body.) You will understand why once you read number 1 below.

  1. The lights are a safety hazzard. Infact they both broke and have overheated within only 10 minutes that they melted (Husband has sent a serious email to the seller regarding his concerns and my dissapointment). The lights themselves I thought were a great idea but they are cheaply made and luckily I have a husband who will be buying me some better quality ones later when we can afford them . Needless to say I am actually gutted but these things happen.Other than them melting , they were not bright enough to start with and definately
  2. The backdrops are great . I love the fact they are great fabric quality and have found that the red is the best to work with as well as the white. They have velcro attatchment so thy atatch to the box studio which is also great.
  3. The box studio is a fantastic size infact bigger than I was expecting , I think I can use this for anything on my blog, well that is untill I get the full size professional shoot kit to start posing. The box is actually the case unfolded and I love how sturdy and solid it is . Excellent quality and perfect for storing away . It has pockets in the front which holds the lights and tripod and backdrops so I can keep it all together . It did not look sturdy at all on their pictures but it is great and so much bigger than I thought which is fabulous .
  4. The tripod is something I have needed for a while now and I was curious as to how my camera would attatch to it . I never realised that on all cameras there is a screw in point which is what the tripod had built in. The stand it sits on is really heavy too so even if I wanted to get a heavier camera it would be fine and stay standing and it also has none slip stoppers on the bottom of the heavy stand so therefore will not slip around.

So there you go my experience with Photograph light box studio today. Yes it is a great buy for the studio itself , tripod stands and backdrops but as for the lights they ruined the whole package and therefore I would not recomend this to anyone unless of course it was a better quality and certified safe of course.

I just hope my husband gets some sort of compensation back for the lights so he can put it towards some better quality, SAFE lights.

Has anyone else bought one of these and found they worked or did you have trouble with them also?.
Any recommendations on good lights would be fantastic so my husband can check them out please.
