Cayton Bay Holiday Park and Filey Shore Holiday

As some of you may have noticed the last two weeks, my updates on twitter and facebook profiles were a little somewhat angry and upset emotions .

I think I finally got to the point where I was in desperate need of getting out of this house.
I have spent some great times playing indoors with the children and the pool in the summer but being stuck in the house that is too small to fit us all in for starters is over bearing at most times and so I finally started to feel down and depressed .

On Wednesday, I eventually broke down , screamed and cried to the husband that I needed a break. He had spent all the holidays working and then for nearly two weeks re painting the family car and to me he had not spent any time with us what so ever , I felt like I was basically alone this summer and so I gave him the ultimatum,

Take us for a family day out or I was going to make his life not worth living for the upcoming year .

It was the only way to make him see that we meant business. He needs it now and again to kick his bum into gear to understand we need more than just a pot of paints to entertain us .

Thursday morning  , I got the call from him while he was working saying he had payed for us to go camping for the weekend and that his brother would be looking after the house and dogs so I instantly felt better.

It is not as if we get to go away all the time not even once a year sometimes but we do usually spend the summer going everywhere and this summer it seemed we had not even got to Sundown Adventure land where we were promised to be taken and had not been .

I felt terrible shouting at him but with broken promises , we needed to do something.

I think he realised after that and taking less than 24hrs to book a holiday showed me he did actually care and was trying to do something for us, he just needed a push.

Anyway Friday morning came and John was working in the morning so he told us to pack everything including the tent and put it all into the family car ready for him getting in at 11am .

The children woke up all excited and we rushed around making a bag of snacks for the journey and ensuring we had everything we could carry .

Once their dad came home , we set of to the garage where we replaced two tyres on the car and then Our holiday had begun,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The children were all excited, they giggled and sang and behaved all the way to their holiday  and after 2 and a half hours drive we arrived at Cayton Bay Holiday park.

We found the area for tent pitch up and spoke to the lovely field warden Dougie who was always on site to help out and make everyone feel comfortable and then chose our spot on the field to put up the tent.

It did not take that long to put together and as soon as it was all ready , it was time to get ready , go get something to eat and make our way to the evening entertainment hall .

Lets just say because there were no walls the children were climbing trees instead on the way.

We got there to find we were a little early which then gave the hubby an excuse to grab a jug of beer, some refill jugs of slush for the children and of course some bingo books to keep entertained before the main shows began.
Picture
It seemed a little quiet for the children's liking as they had to sit quiet through bingo but fortunately the site team members took them of for a conga around the site to show them the soft play area, park and amusements , so by the time they came back, we had finished bingo and poured drinks and made ourselves comfortable .
We decided to take it in turns for alcohol consumption lol, in other words I would get merry on Friday and John would enjoy a drink on Saturday so for me who usually drinks shandy only , I got stuck in determined to make the most of the holiday.

We did not win on bingo but we had fun and felt relaxed knowing the children were safe on site and having fun .

During the course of the night we drank merrily and the children spent their dads money in the shop which was filled with toys and flashy light toys , unfortunate for him when he realised they had spent £200 in only one night but we did not care we were having family fun time away from home and the stress .

The entertainment was fabulous for the kids and they spent the evening on the dancefloor , playing games and at one point , two other children were told to go into the audience to collect things that began with the letter S.
At this point my son took it upon himself to run up onto the stage and declare he had a Sword and they could use it in their competition.

He did not seem to care that there were hundreds of people looking at him , he was having so much fun, till his dad had to come and remove him from the stage .

I seem to have got a little too tipsy that night and when I woke the next morning , the children laughed at me and my husband explained I tripped over a tent wire on the way back to our tent and basically fell into my bed.

Well that explains the huge scratch and bruise on my arm ,,,ouch.

On Saturday morning , my husband set up the camping stove, prepared us all sausages and bacon sandwiches and we told the children we would go play on the park so we got ready and of we went.

I actually loved the site park , it seemed to have plenty there for them to enjoy .

With mummy feeling a little tender after last nights antics, John decided a trip to Filey seaside would do us all the world of good, plus save a few pennies taking up some time of site as the food was quite pricey for our family of 8 and unless we were going to let them spend another fortune in the amusements , it really would be the better option to go to the seaside.

We took them for an hour into the soft play area where they enjoyed running around and me and their dad could enjoy a cup of tea before we all got into the car and set of for Filey .

We parked in the town and headed straight down towards the beach while on the way popping into the bakery shop and grabbing us all some dinner before hitting the sand.

I have never been to Filey and now I have can honestly say it is the most beautiful coast . It is now my most loved seaside resort and I am going to go again as much as possible after having so much fun.

We walked along the full shoreline and after popping into the seaside shop to buy some fishing nets , bucket and spade for the children we headed straight towards the rock pools  to go search for crabs.

Now if your anything like me and have tried this before in other UK shores, it is rarely unlikely we have ever found crabs, in fact the only thing I have ever found is jelly fish but it was fantastic.

We spent the whole day there , we had no idea how far we had walked before realising we were at the end of the peak and having to turn around when we realised we needed to get back to site ready for the shows that night.

We started of finding winkles , then muscles , a few dead crabs were the only thing in the beginning but as we got further along the peak of the rock pools we discovered so many things that entertained the children for hours, we could have slept on that beach if it was possible, I loved it so much.

We even came across a huge mother crab , protecting and cradling its young underneath her in one of the pools , we were all fascinated and although the children wanted to bring it home, I explained that they had to leave the creatures in their natural habitat to survive and live happily and safe.

We had so much fun and although we placed everything back in its habitat, we did notice a lady behind us who was packing up cockles, muscles and clams into a bucket ready to be taken home to eat .

As the day grew darker and the children's legs became tired , we decided to head back to shore ,  do the toilet run and pop into Tesco to grab a few supplies to save us a fortune back at the camp site for the late night entertainment.
Sweets, nuts, cakes and pastry was shoved into a bag ready for them to enjoy  and we head of back to the tent where we dug into some lovely chips from the local chip shop and then had them have a nap before getting ready to go see the shows again.

Again the children had great fun watching the shows and dancing , the entertainment seemed to be better that night and we watched the shows, played in the arcades for a little bit we left later that evening with tired children ready for bed.

Well ,,,,,,,,,,,,,

We got back to the tent an they seemed to wake up when my son and their tipsy dad decided to conduct a story about the pirates they had seen at the seaside and as our son had bought a glow stick gun we sat at the tent bed waiting for them to arrive while his dad was forced to sit in the doorway ensuring they would not get past .

After another hour , the children fell asleep and me and my husband sat having a good chat about how our holiday had gone and that we hoped to return very soon.

I was adamant after going to Filey that I would love to move there but that would never happen.

Our holiday felt like it had ended as we all dosed of to sleep and the next morning we made bacon and sausages again and had to pack up our belongings ready to head of back home .

We had a fabulous time. It was exactly what we needed. Just a break away together as a family with no T.V , Computers, phones or work and we were all exhausted.

Cayton Bay holiday park was lovely although I do think that the on site take away was pricey and took forever to be prepared, (for example,  we sent our eldest to go get a kebab for his dad and 40 minutes later he was still stood there waiting for another 5 minutes waiting for it till I decided to tell the mr that it did not take that long to microwave the meat and add a flimsy amount of lettuce to a small tray ). It was not like it was packed, there was him and another customer only.
I think they need to add something more for food wise there, add more staff to the take way to ensure the service is efficient and lower the prices.

The entertainment for the children and adults were great, our children had so much fun and the site team were lovely .
The park and the soft play area kept them amused and although we did not play mini golf it looked great for the kids.

We are unable to go to the swimming pool in the centre due to the fact there are only two adults and 6 children although it looked fantastic , I hate the  fact someone along the line changed the rules for that ratio of 1 adult per child to go swimming because we miss out now .

We have to give credit to Dougie , the field caretaker, he was seen all day walking around the field, talking to the pitchers, making sure they were all ok and he was always seen cleaning up the loose rubbish that was escaping tents at all opportunities. He made everyone feel so welcome and carried a smile all day round. He is a total credit to the Holiday Park.

The site had a shop where you could get supplies and we only needed to use it once or twice but it seemed reasonable for the necessities .

The whole family spent time in the amusements , those 2p machines save a fortune and when the children collect their stars of tickets together its nice to see a selection of prizes for them to choose from although they are £1 quality when you have spent £20 for that one little thing , least it is something as they came away with bubble guns , mini skateboards , aeroplanes and sweets .

To be honest we were not there that long , just for the weekend but I do not think I could stay there for any longer in our quite small 3 bedroom tent , we would definitely need to invest in a larger one for next time.

We had a fantastic break , and looking into our next trip already , next time we will be visiting Flower of May I think , The closer to that gorgeous Filey shore I am , the more happy our family will be .

It felt somewhat overwhelming at how beautiful the scenery is on that seaside yet it had all the amenities a seaside resort needed .

The husband was instantly happy when he dug into the fresh seafood stall and the childrenloved the rock pools.

On our way out of the bay we even saw the town cryer who looked like a pirate which mesmorised our youngest son who we then spun a story about the man we saw with the metal detector on the sand digging for the pirates treasure and that the pirate (town cryer) was going to go get it back.

We have made a fabulous memory on our holiday and I know we will now make many more .

Have you been ?

It's so nice to get out of the house isn't it! We went to the beach as well. My mummy would be climbing up the walls otherwise! #Myfavouriteplace

I'm so glad you all got to go away. I know exactly how you feel. The winter has left me climbing the walls slightly. Look at all those happy little faces, I can see what fun they all had. THanks for linking up with #MyFavouritePlace
