Creative painting with the children on this dull day

Woke up today and the weather is terrible , we were going to go out and paint the garden , kids style but instead the children have opted to stay in warm and find another way to get messy.

We bought a lot of paints from Tesco a month ago , they were on offer 3 for 2 and only £1 per big bottle so we grabbed 14 bottles of different colours , a lady bird palette and some paint brushes .

We always have a huge pile of paper at the ready for them so our stash  so to speak is growing rapidly .

Painting with the little ones always seem to entertain them for a few hours at least and although there is a huge mass of mess at the end of the day its nice to see them doing something other than staring at a TV or computer screen.

We usually end up just making a total mess , the last time I let them go wild with the paints, they decided to grab a roll of wallpaper , roll it across the full length of the sitting room floor and pop their feet , hands and eventually bums and faces in the paint and just squidged it all over making a terrible goey mess in what I can only describe as a horrible brown yacky colour that had been mixed from all the colours of the rainbow .

This time I was determined to do something different so I pulled out the straws and got them started on making some little splatter aliens .

I saw the idea on a children's art show , more than likely Cbeebies or Disney maybe, the amount of children's programmes we watch is ridiculous its hard to keep count what is what .

It was all very fun and easy, the children seemed to spend longer than usual playing with the blow straws .
The paint was a little thick but that is to be expected with children's paint so we had to add a drop of water onto each section before we could blow them to make them splatter easier.

Haha , like little aliens as my youngest son Kaiden said.
They just need some google eyes and then they will look fabulous but unfortunately my other son Leon then stepped on the creative alien splatters and they are now destroyed on the bottom of his foot been trodden on through out the household while Godzilla (also known as me) tries to fetch it for a clean up.

Meanwhile on the other side of the table Kaiden and Sian are making more artistic pleasures such as mirror butterflies and more splatter aliens to replace the now trodden on ones.

She seems so impressed with it that she decides to do another one for her sister to and the pile up of paintings begin.
My window can only hold so many lol.

Now that the alien splatter tormentor has arrived back to the table he is ready to do some more .

So the children had great fun and after 3 hours playing with paint, they have made splatter aliens with straws, mirror imaged butterflies, big blobs of mess and some artistic looking art , I even got a lovely picture from my little Drew .

So what have you been doing today to keep the little ones busy in this wet weather ?
