Going Green With 4M Science Green Rocket

So sorry this is late, I know this was meant to be posted last week , but I have had the craziest month .

Having four boys , I know all about how they love to make things especially if they blow up or shoot off at speed and this is why this has been our fun of the week toy.
Picture
The 4M Green Science Green Rocket is available from Greatgizmos.co.uk for £12.95 and I for one think it is a fabulous Creative and fun, scientific and educational toy that is suitable for both boys and girls aged for 8 years and over.

The aim of the Green Rocket is to reuse old and used papers and plastic bottles to achieve the most amazing rocket which actually works from compressed air and a few bits and pieces found from around the home  (along with a few extra pieces supplied from 4M Green Science).
Picture
Seen as the the older boys were looking a little bored and being told that computers were not going on for the day , I told them both to do their chores then find all of the pieces which we needed to add to our box of contents .

Although the kit is supplied with pieces which you need , you still need other pieces to make it work such as -

  • x2 Plastic pop bottles ( We found empty coke bottles perfect size for this experiment)
  • Sellotape
  • Scissors
  • Screw driver

Over time the you will also add your own paper to make the rockets but at first the templates are supplied for you.

Taking out the instructions, the boys took no time to read them what so ever but instead followed the pictures and diagrams and were in no time up and ready to get blasting rockets .

For me , having a son who is not very good with reading, the instructions seemed a little far fetched, too long winded for my liking, but having the diagrams helped so much better and appreciated them having both options to make things easier for us to follow.

It only took the boys about half an hour to put all the kit together and although it was recyclable, the kit was very solid and sturdy, it has in fact been used a few times already and is being stored in the garden play house for another time .

The boys look excited to give it a try .
Picture
I Loved that you got two rocket templates (very similar but slightly different in colour and style), one for each of the boys, and with only the need of the red foam topper to be reused at a later date I liked how it also encouraged them to make their own and in the future enables them to know how to do it themselves.
The rockets were very sleek looking  the only thing we had to do extra to the instructions was add a little extra tape around the top of the rocket to secure the foam topper to the tubing to stop it from breaking easily.
Picture
With the kit all set up , it was ready for the boys to take it out into the garden , giving them enough space to let it fly .
Picture
The only think the boys had to do was to secure the rocket on top of the black pipe peering from the green pipe and then take a huge stomp on top of the Plastic bottle laying on the floor.
I was confused as to why two bottles were needed at first but basically it is there for weighing the whole thing down so when the instructions say fill it half full with water, there is no harm in topping it to the brim .
It also gives a place for the pipe and rocket somewhere to lean on and give better aim .
Picture
The older boys spent over an hour playing with the Kit , unfortunately , you do need a big field to use this as we were not expecting the rocket to reach the heights it did at over 20 ft high and being in the garden it nearly ended up on our roof so I would advise to use this in a larger space like a field or the beach would be another great outing area.

Although the Green Science Green Rocket kit is suited to ages 8 years and over, my younger son aged 5 years was absolutely amazed and excited to see what the boys had been up to and so now the hard work of them putting it all together had been completed he was able to join in on the fun and loved it even more.
Picture
The 4M Green Science Green Rocket kit made a fantastic activity for the boys to do together, it was a great bonding activity as they both had to work together and it encouraged team work allowing them to achieve a fun finishing product.

The boys did not really take much interest in the scientific part of the experiment, but they did like the construction part which had them thinking more and using their concentration.

The two older boys  really enjoyed this and I would buy this again , it gave us all half a days play and the educational and teamwork aspects of the kit make it most appealing to re purchase .
Ii truly am amazed at the fact this rocket ended up over 20 ft off the floor, great fun .

What do you think of the Green Science Green Rocket?

My son would love this - it combines a couple of favourite things: science, construction and he loves firing off stomp rockets in the park.
