Yesterday was so relaxing as I had the whole day to myself because the children were all on a school trip to Tweedle farm . Well that was until I picked them up from school. My daughter Drew on the right hand side came out sporting a bracelet she had made from pipe cleaner and well although I was pleased with her creativity the mood soon changed from proud to angry. We live literally two doors away from the school so it takes us seconds to get from school to our front door and it was when I got to the door Ii heard squeals of hysterics from Drew. I asked her what was the matter trying to balance the junk letters from the school in one hand, my keys in another and the other 4 little ones while she just screamed and told me her head was bleeding. I am not soo great with blood and when I managed to franticly open the door , hurry them inside to check her out I noticed blood pouring down the back of her head to discover this. I was horrified and confused at the same time but for once stayed quite calm as I rang my husband while trying to apply pressure on the wound to try and stop the bleed to ask for help. He was working on contracts so he called his dad to come see asap. Luckily they were on their way home from Tesco so were here in 5 minutes. We call dad the family medic , he always knows how to deal with things we don't. Luckily he said she did not need to go to the hospital but needed to be careful and so we fixed it best we could and waited till it was safe for her to go to bed with a bandage wrapped round her head . I was absolutely gob smacked that a children's crafting piece could do so much damage , especially not just scratching the head but in fact slicing it leaving a gash like this. I find it unbelievable that these are included in children's craft boxes, schools and nursery's after this and from now on they are totally banned from our home. So today I decided to keep Drew of school to be safe , the school obviously had a telling off and they tried to get her to go to class today but Ii refused to even let her out of my site, after all she was my responsibility and it was in my eyes their fault that this had happened in the first place. I simply told them I did not trust her being at school with the injury. We had an assembly for my older daughter Sian this morning so we attended as Drew showed of her wounds to the teachers and her friends. It was lovely to see Sian singing and telling us all about her Lindisfarne Priory and Durham Cathederal visit . Drew and I soon had to depart as I needed to pop to to the local shop to get their dinner money to pay the school before they broke up for the two week Easter holidays, plus there was a Parent Easter day with Kaiden and Leons class. We had a busy day and so when we arrived to the boys class we were full of excitement with Making hats, book marks and baskets . We even had an egg hunt which they all thoroughly enjoyed. Haha...... aww we found some of their artwork while there too. Once dinner time arrived it was our turn to leave so me , Kaiden and Drew went home to have some lunch . We planned on making cakes but noticed there were no eggs left so instead we sat and relaxed for half hour before we had to pick up the others from school. Time to pick the little ones up and as I walk to the gates I see them all fleeing out in happy smiles. Oh this was far from yesterdays event. Sian came running over with a certificate she had received from Belmont Comprehensive school. The school were also doing egg competitions and asked the local schools to ask pupils to colour in a picture and three winners would be picked form all schools entered. I was over the moon as the three winners were all our three girls . I felt soo proud . Libby had also been given another prize for her winning the Design your own egg competition at school. She made a king and a queen and they were lovely and colourful. I especially loved her chick card . The boys were pleased with their cards to . Gosh they grow so quickly. With a house filled with eggs, cards plus the other cakes and chocolates that they received from school today , it is starting to feel a little like Easter and the children are excited for their school holidays.
We are now relaxing watching movies while waiting for their dad to come in and show him the surprise, I am sure he will be very proud and of course hungry. So after the day we have had the children will retire to bed ready for their holidays and I am going to relax with a bottle and feel proud I am their mum. Well done my little Prince's , so proud.

My children used to play with pipe cleaners all the time at home and school, I did as a child, made all sorts, still even paper can make a nasty cut!! I am sure she was fine soon after, more of a scare for you. She seem to be happy with the egg, it will soon be forgotten by her!

Oh gosh what a fright for you both! The scratchy metal ends can be quite sharp. School could have warned her about it or taped the ends perhaps? Glad she was OK in the end.

Wow, that must have been scary my 3 year old has played with them, not sure if I want him to play them anymore. I hope your baby feels better. Great arts and crafts, loving the chick card, very creative.

What great crafts! I always panic at cuts but I am sure it looked worse than it was, as others have said, probably more upsetting for you!

What a mixed bag! Brilliant news on winning the competition but I would have been mortified about that injury too x

Oh gosh, I would have completely freaked out with that blood. Looks like you all had a great time despite it.

Crumbs, what a day! Lots of happy moments to make up for the pipe cleaner incident, I hadn't realised they could be so sharp!
