So as you may have guessed , it's World Book Day and of course being Home schooled does not mean we have to miss out on all the fun so I ensured that we would have plenty to do to take part, especially as it's Kaidens 7th Birthday and he loves to dress up . World Book day is a celebration of books, Authors, Illustrators and anything to do with reading and was originally formed and appointed by UNESCO (United Nations, Educational, Scientific And Cultural Organization) and is now celebrated across over 100 countries worldwide. It has been going now for 20 years now and today on the 2nd March , children and adults of all ages have come together to enjoy the fun of reading and everything that comes with it by Dressing up and taking part in events to appreciate and encourage children to read more . Every World Book Day , each child of school age receives a free token for £1 which they can use to buy one of the free books available or use against buying a book of their choice (any book) and just because we're home schooling does not mean we won't recieve one. You just need to get in touch with them and they will gladly send you them out. This morning , we started our day by waking up and decided to eat something that would be apart of a children's book we all recognized - Porridge! We love the story of the Goldilocks and the Three Bears . There are so many different and fun activities t do revolving around reading and encouraging the smaller ones to read. We had a great game called the World Book Day Scavenger Hunt. It gives you a list of words and you have to get each child to think of a Story, Book, Novel that includes that word in either the Title or the book itself. I obviously made it a little more fun by having then run around the house and garden looking for an item that fitted that word and book just like Libby shows above with the Porridge from ''Goldilocks And The Three Bears''. It was fun to see them running around grabbing Frogs for ''Princess and the frog'', Trains for '' Harry Potter'' and a Cauldron for ''Lion , Witch and The Wardrobe''. It got them thinking. We Dressed them up in their outfits they had chosen and got to work with learning some important quotes from books and Authors . The children especially loved Dr Seuss and Piglets from Winnie the Pooh and they even took some inspiration form them like the one from L. Frank Baum below from ''The Wizard Of OZ''. The children had a great day, even Sky T.v had joined in on the fun by adding a Bookworm and World Book Day section to their guide which was a great idea for the little ones who especially enjoyed watching Gruffalo and Matilda. During the week , the children were working on many different parts of Books and reading and their chosen projects were Jeff Kinney's ''Diary of a Wimpy Kid'', David Walliam's ''The First Hippo on the Moon'' and a few of the other favourites seen below. They made book reviews, inspiring quotes, plots and even made their very own stories . We talked about titles, and headlines, chapters and plots , authors and illustrators and the children found there was alot more to books than just reading them. To Encourage reading in our home , we visit our local library every weekend, we also have a reading challenge where the children have to read their books and see who's read the most by the end of the month which then ends in them receiving an award or prize . As the day ended , I handed them their very own award for being so good at joining on the wonderful day . What have been doing to celebrate, Did you dress up, join in on any Scavenger hunts or reading challenges?

Looks like you had a great day! I love that you visit the library every week. Ours is usually so quiet when we go, I think it's such a shame people don't use them more often!
