I was absolutely delighted when I Spoke to Nicola Edwards , creater, writer and illustrator of the wonderful books for children that support children in helping them combat fears or worries they may have. There are ten books so far , each dealing with a different struggle, fear or worry that a child might be dealing with and we were lucky to be sent ''Brian And The Black Pebble'', the third book of the series which supports self esteem and confidence. Adventuresofbrian.co.uk available from Amazon . ![]()
''Brian and the Black Pebble'' tells the story of Brian the Dog who goes for a walk with his mummy .
He had been feeling very sad but had no idea why and when he finds a pebble he takes it home and instantly starts feeling better. His confidence grows and he starts to feel much happier. He looks after the pebble, takes it everywhere with him and cares for it and the more he does this , the more the pebble turns brighter and warmer. This gives Brian a self confidence boost, he feels proud that he is looking after something and that it is looking better and feeling warmer with every hug and care he gives it so he keeps doing it until the black pebble turns into a beautiful white diamond.
I have been reading this to my little boy and he has been taking it to bed and reading it himself .
He loves looking at the illustrations and just like the pebble Brian has , he now feels this book is special to him and places it under his pillow before he sleeps. Our little boy is undergoing his own fears and worries, he's had some very upsetting times and it has taken a lot of his confidence away from him. He used to rarely speak and although he is a much happier little boy now, he still has times when he feels a little upset and down himself. I am hoping this book helps him realize that he is special , we tell him every day but sometimes it needs to come from someone who is not a parent and if that comes from form of a book which he can identify with and understand clearly then I think it helps him feel a little more prouder trying to work it all out himself .
To me , reading is something I like to encourage , it helps the child and adult learn and grow and this books gives that little extra . It's a lesson of self respect, confidence, pride and about caring for something other than yourself, but also teaches that caring for something or someone else, makes you feel better and boosts your own mind and self wellbeing.
Due to the nature of these books and understanding how special they are, helping a child feel better, loved, confident and proud , I really hope that someone else can benefit from one so thanks to the wonderful Nicola , I have a spare book to giveaway.

What a lovely concept for a book, I think it is great that they are advocating self-esteeem, something that many youngsters find hard to increase x

This is such a lovely way too teach this lesson, I think it's sometimes hard to understand the complexities of the emotions kids go through, and to know how to tackle them!

My daughter suffers from terrible anxiety and she is only 5. My worry is how this will continue to affect her when she is older.

My biggest fear is being alone, although I love to have the house to myself, I dread being alone permanently.
